The Weekender-St Patrick's Day Edition

Erin Go Bragh All! (Ireland Forever)

This is one of my favorite times of year; probably because I am Irish and John is from County Clare. It just makes it really feel like spring, or that real spring time weather is looming ahead. Whether you are looking to get your Irish on early or you want to be Irish on Monday here's a list of local Irish bars. The * denotes I have actually attempted to drink there on Patty's only to meet a HUGE crowd (I am not a big fan of crowds, but if you are-these might be the places to go)
The Irish Rover* (28th ave @ 38th street)
Dillinger's (30th ave @ 47th street)
McCann's (Ditmars @ 35th st)
Gilbeys* (Broadway @ 32nd)
McLoughlin's (across B-way from Gilbey's)
Blackstone(Broadway @ 38th)
Cronin & Phelan's (2 doors down from Blackstone...where I will be)
Doyle's Corner (Broadway @ 42nd)

In other news Waltz Astoria continues to bring the music to us live each weekend. We've got some Lady Songwriters up tonight and tomorrow Experimental Jazzist Alex Terrier. Check the website out for all the nitty gritty.

Sunday was supposed to be the day of the Astoria Flickr group's photowalk but the weather has made that go bust.
Instead go shopping for a cause. The Seeds of Love fundraisers are at it again. This time they are raising money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Astoria. Stop by The Ultimate Beauty Care (29-10 23rd Avenue) from 3-6 pm to score yourself all sorts of New, Cute,Trendy, Name Brand Clothes(ed note: ie Urban Outfitters), Tote Bags,Bed in a Bag Sets, Pocketbooks, Housewares and More!

Later on Sunday Hellgate Social bring us the NYC premiere screening of Green Eyed Monster.
The film is a supernatural thriller based on Hispanic folklore. A group ofyoung friends are drawn to an abandoned ranch by rumors of hidden money.Their hunger for the money grows as the grisly history of the landthreatens to consume them all.
Movie starts @ 8:30pm Happy Hour 7-9pm.

Make it a great one folks!

The Weekender

Daylight Saving(no s) Time starts this Sunday, so don't forget to Spring Forward and enjoy more daylight hours! I'll be wishing I didn't have to work this Sunday morning.

Saturday is going to be a weather wash out, so maybe that's the time to catch up on some Netflix or get those oft put off chores done (why it always has to rain when I want to do my laundry is beyond me).

Mezzo Mezzo up at Ditmars is joining in the comedy routine. Matt Taylor (formerly of Waltz Astoria's Tuesday Comedy Night) has moved the gig up the Boulevard. Show starts at 9pm and this is an awesome line up. I've seen some of these guys so this is quite the bargain for your comedy buck. I've never been to Mezzo Mezzo but I have passed by it and read up on it so it is on my list of things to try, and soon.
(Line up courtesy of Mr Taylor)
MOODY MCCARTY (last comic standing / late late show / comedy central)
BRYAN OLSEN (Chappelle's Show / his untitled movie is coming out next year in theatres everywhere)
ERIC KIRCHBERGER (HBO Comedy / Comedy Central)
MATT TAYLOR (your host! toured with SPEEDtv and performed on MTV)

Also tonight, is an opportunity to help out the Astoria Music Society while enjoying 2 for 1 drink specials at Island. They'd love a $20 donation but anything will help them out. Come meet musicians, the orchestra director, and help AMS bring you the best in symphony orchestra music, jazz, and chamber music.

Sunday from 11-6 the Magic of Astoria Arts & Craft Market is back at the Queensview Cmmunity room (Building #7 on 33rd RoadBuilding #14 on 34th AvenueBetween 21st Street and Crescent Street). Original Paintings, watercolor & oil, jewelry, photos, soaps, crochet, children’s clothing. Unique hand crafted items of all kinds available.

Have fun & keep dry!
