The Weekender

Friday, Hell Gate Social is ready to RAWK with Metal Mayhem brought to you by DJ Cerberus starting at 9.

If you’re looking for something a little more mellow that metal, check out Waltz-Astoria’s newly renovated digs. They are hosting jazz/pop/bossa nova duo, Nova Columbo’s CD release party. $5 cover and $7 drink minimum, set starts at 9pm.

This Saturday yours truly will be participating in the Astoria Craft Collective trunk show. Stop by the patio of craftiness on 29th street and 35th avenue between 11 and 5pm where local crafters will be selling jewelry (me!) clothes, baby gear, candles and whatnot. We’ll also have complimentary drinks and snacks, wheeee! Say hello and meet some new crafty neighbors.

Candy Plum is also having a sale on Saturday. Their fave T-Shirt designers will be having a trunk show where you can rock 10% off and get a free gift with purchase AND they have snackys too.

Don’t forget to shake your groove thing over at PS1’s Warm Up, the hottest party this side of the East River…nay the city! Word is there is a special line for Astoria/LIC residents. If only the beer garden would get hip to that trick.

Sunday night is an as yet undetermined movie at Hell Gate Social, and Pub Quiz night at the Irish Rover.
It's also Harry Potter mania, and our lonely in need of work bookstore-Seaburn-will indeed be carrying the book.

Although it’s not in Astoria, it is a rockin good show: The Siren Music Festival is this Saturday at Coney Island.

If you’ve got the I can’t get into the Beer Garden Blues then cross the street and head over to Sparrow. We went there for the first time a few weeks ago for a friends birthday and we were digging it. I’d probably go more often if I wasn’t hanging on the edge of south Astoria, but it is worth the trip.
